June 24, 2004 (Edmonton, Alberta) – Matrikon and HMS Industrial Networks today released the OPC Server for Anybus-PCI. This new server provides OPC connectivity to Profibus, DeviceNet, and AS-Interface networks through Anybus-PCI interface cards. The joint development effort combines Matrikon’s knowledge of OPC and HMS’s experience with all major industrial networks into a cost-effective solution for OPC-compatible industrial software applications.
"This is a big step forward for those who use Fieldbus devices," says Jonas Eriksson, Product Line Manager for HMS. "Those using Profibus, DeviceNet and AS-Interface networks are now able to interface with any OPC-compliant application."
OPC is a published communication standard originally developed for the process control industry. With over 300 OPC interfaces commercially available and the ability to connect disparate systems together, OPC is gaining popularity in other industries including those using different networks such as Fieldbus.
"We are pleased to be able to work in conjunction with HMS," says Randy Kondor, OPC Product Manager at Matrikon. "Leveraging HMS’s vast knowledge and experience enabled us to introduce Fieldbus users to access applications for monitoring, visualization and reporting that otherwise they wouldn’t have."
